Capture Them with Color!

- The Color Marketing Group suggests Barefootin’, a neutral rooted in orange, to help your customers feel at ease while shopping.
Nothing transforms a space quicker (and easier) than color. With a small investment in a couple of paint cans, you can make your gallery pop, create a more relaxed setting, or craft a great accent wall to offset display pieces.
Why bother? Color sells. According to the Color Marketing Group (CMG), a group of color experts headquartered in Alexandria, Va., color increases brand recognition by 80%, and can account for up to 85% of the reason people buy. That’s why CMG’s slogan is “Color sells, and the right colors sell better.”
But committing to a new color can also be scary. To help guide you, we spoke with CMG experts to find out what the current hot colors are. Read on, and see if one might work for you:
Barefootin’: CMG president James Martin says this color embodies the feeling you got “the last time you slipped off your shoes … ahhh.” Help your customers relax with this great neutral. It’s rooted in orange, an energized color, so it soothes without being dull. It’s a fantastic way to enhance metallic fixtures.
Red: Now you’ve got their attention! A red accent wall adds a clean pop to neutrals. Look for strong reds that are bright and clean, with pink intuition.
Yellow: Yellows are a great way to add a feeling of comfort and warmth to your gallery, and they look terrific with wood. CMG recommends a greener, more natural yellow, softened with gray.
Green: Give your gallery space an optimistic and uplifting feel. CMG suggests a bright accent green with a slight shift toward blue.
Blue: A saturated blue with gray influences gives your gallery a rich feeling without being too luxe.
Beige-Brown: This “chameleon” complements darker hues, and can be matte or metallic.
Neutral Gray: Try gray with a touch of purple, drawing inspiration from concrete and steel.

CMG used to be much more specific. Just artsy-craftsy verbage these days. How much longer is Mr. Martin going to be president.
