Craftsmen’s Guild of Mississippi
Julia Daily, executive director
What do you do for your members?
Since 1973, the Craftsmen’s Guild of Mississippi has offered many benefits to its members: opportunities to sell work at the Mississippi Craft Center Gallery; direct referrals to collectors, buyers, designers and wholesalers; direct referrals to feature writers, authors and producers; business workshops throughout the year; new member orientations and exhibits to introduce the guild’s newest members to the surrounding community and state; and an annual guild reunion that allows networking and sharing among the members. For potential members, the guild holds “Prepare to Qualify” workshops twice each year before the membership juries begin. These are user-friendly workshops about the entire application process.
What events/shows do you have to help promote the artists/galleries?
The Chimneyville Crafts Festival, an indoor festival of 200 exhibitors now in its 35th year, is held the first weekend in December. The popular festival is a major reason artisans join the guild. It is continuously rated a Southeast Tourism Association Top 20 Event and this year received the 2011 Festival/Event of the Year honors by the Mississippi Tourism Association. Also, Heritage Days at the Mississippi Craft Center allow traditional artisans to demonstrate and sell their products.
